Cindy became a doll collector at the age of eleven. One of the dolls she started collecting was the Ideal Tammy doll, a teenage fashion doll from the 1960s.

While Barbie collectors could find plenty of reference books on their favorite doll, there was not enough information about Tammy to satisfy collectors' demands. Hearing from so many people the same wish for a comprehensive reference guide for Tammy, Cindy hooked up with another doll collector and together they wrote the book, "The Collector’s Guide to Tammy, the Ideal Teen."

The book came out in 1997 and the positive feedback Cindy still gets from it continues to amaze her. Sadly, the book is out of print and like the Tammy doll is now a collectible. When copies turn up for sale on the collector's market, the price is often high. Some collectors own copies that are falling apart from being used so much, but it is the type of book you can’t throw away no matter what the condition.

Cindy's second book, "Collector’s Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s" is a reference guide to about 500 different dolls from this era.

After the book came out, her publisher received so many orders for it they had to do a second printing within a few months. Her editor said they obviously underestimated the demand for the book. It has since gone on to four or five printings.

Her third book "Collector’s Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s, Volume II" covers an additional 350+ dolls that didn’t appear in the first volume.

All three reference books were lessons in patience, persistence, frustration, and hard work. Each book took about two years to research, write, and  photograph all the dolls that appear in them. Cindy shot over 5,000 photos for her books and went through three different 35mm cameras (back before digital). The research involved with each book at times was long and boring. Towards the end of every book she admits she had to fight the urge to throw the manuscript out the window and give up. Now when she meets collectors and hears how much they enjoy her books and constantly use them for reference, she's relieved none of the books ended up out the window during the work-in-process stage.

Cindy's fourth doll book, a second book on the Tammy doll called "Tammy Rarities From Around The World,"  took an extra long journey in reaching publication. After years of work and many pitfalls on the journey, it made its publishing debut in May 2011 to the delight of Tammy collectors who had been waiting patiently for it.

Reviews of Cindy's Books

For years, collectors had to rely on doll collecting guide books that were either filled with errors or are big on text and short on photographs. To the contrary, "Collector's Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s" is refreshingly accurate, fact filled and visually arresting. Descriptions not only include manufacturers, dates and markings but also follow with interesting facts and helpful collecting tips. The guide contains a great mix of well photographed dolls and original advertisements. Ms. Sabulis' guide is as delightful as it is useful.   Laurie Dowell, Editor, Bobcow Production

As if her first book didn't do enough damage to my bank account, Ms. Sabulis had to follow up with a sequel, providing me even more opportunities to indulge my doll-collecting habit (addiction). Just like her Collector's Guide Vol I, Volume II is page after page of beautiful photographs and informative descriptions of dolls I had or wanted as a child, and also contains many dolls I never knew existed (but now of course must obtain). There's so much there, I find something new each time I peruse it afresh. Warning: The cost of this book is very reasonable. But unless (unlike me) you have a lot of self-discipline, it will ultimately cost you far more than the initial purchase price!   Elizabeth "glitterspray" Williams

Both Volume I and Volume II of "Collector's Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s" are the very best doll reference guides ever published, and I'm not just saying that because Cindy's my best friend.   Author’s Best Friend

This is the best book ever written by anyone in our family. Author’s Sister
